“Don’t do…”  “Avoid…” Refrain from…”  “Guard against…”
Are we fixated on sin as a church?  How many sermons do we preach about living righteously?  About Enacting the Kingdom?  How often do we look forward at the righteous life toward which we are called?  We are constantly admonished to flee sin, but I am afraid that we are not shown the place toward which we run.  Like the proverbial driver with his (or her, of course) eyes fixated on the rear-view mirror, we seem to think that by avoiding sin righteousness will be achieved.  But is righteousness just the absence of sin?  I hope not.  Rather righteousness is a presence.  How rarely do we articulate that presence.  Why do we not, instead of always urging people to run away (to anywhere?!)  - urge people, invite people, to run toward righteousness.  How about we articulate a vision of a kingdom-like community and invite people toward that?  We might be more successful.  We will be more enticing.

I have been working on my dresser.  I am building myself a dresser out of gumwood and maple.  The dresser I have is falling apart, and is the sort of furniture wherein none of the parts failed to pass through sawdust on the way to being a dresser.
Like most complicated projects, this one is about number crunching and making jigs as much as it is about cutting.
Above is a picture taken while cutting the datos for the web frames - pictured in clamps at right.
Lower right is a picture of one of the sides of the the dresser.

Again this year, I went with the family out to Camas, where my aunt and uncle have a house on the hillside overlooking the river. Dad and I rode up on our bikes, which was excellent. Also Again this year we had to laugh at the view over Portland: Oregon’s Fireworks laws certainly don’t seem to be working all that well. We agreed that we saw more airborn fireworks over Portland than we saw on the Washington side of the river. At some point, if a law is completely disregarded by such a large percentage of a populous, is it advisable just to drop it?
A fun time was had by all.

Okay, I am working too much to really call them lazy days. But it is nice that, while not in school, when I get home from work, or on the weekend, I can really relax. If I want to go on a bike ride, I can without worrying about the homework I should be doing. Which is nice.
