It was a beautiful day in Portland today, as others have noted. Since I kinda got a late start, I thought that a drive would be good, so I went to Astoria. Even though I have lived in Portland all my life, I have never driven to the coast on highway 30. So I did.

As it turns out, just because it was nice and sunny in Portland, doesn’t mean it is on the coast; in fact, it was raining heavily. Still, I took some pictures, and ate fresh fish and chips. And salt water taffy. A good trip, overall, even if I did leave the one nice day in recent memory for the rain.

Maybe I’ll get a second chance to enjoy the sun soon. Maybe.

It is funny (and others) to me how quickly the city of Portland shuts down at just a hint of snow. Still, as rarely as snow happens, its probably not bad to have a snow day now and again.

The snow does give me an excuse to use my camera, as if I needed one.

I posted some new pictures in the Gallery, you your viewing pleasure.

One of the joys of digital photography is that it doesn’t cost anything (after the purchase of the camera, of course) to take pictures. So I take pictures, crazy pictures, pictures I know won’t be any good - just to see what happens. Tonight I was playing with the different flash modes on my camera.

Like the Uthmanns, I get snow now that I live at a higher elevation.

The first portion of this site’s transformation is complete: All of the posts have been migrated to this site. That includes not only all the posts made with iWeb (the previous iteration) but also all the post on the earlier iterations stretching back to March ‘04 when this site started on blogger. Together at last. I have also managed to resurrect many of the comments associated with the old posts, though unhappily not all.

The second portion of this site pertains to that “photo” tab up top. This site has become very photo oriented, and I intend on continuing that. Phase two is starting soon

mthood
For the second year running, Brendon and I hiked around Mt. Hood, this time taking just under 48 hours to hike the 43 miles of it. Light and fast. Even though we were truckin’ along, we found that the light weight of our packs made the trip more enjoyable. We also discovered that going counter-clockwise around the mountain was preferable for us than clockwise.
The Hike was beautiful, of course. But don’t take my word for it, go look at the pictures

Today was the speed skating Regional Championships at Oaks Park.  Dad and Jonathan both raced.  If you’ve never witnessed this sport, it is nothing like the roller-skating of yore.  These guys and gals move fast.  And train hard.  I put some pictures on Flickr.

storm

Nothing says summer like….rain. Well, a thunder storm to be exact. And lightning. Standing on the roof, feeling the cool wet metal of the fire escape beneath my toes, I tried to photograph the lightning, but it was too slippery.
