I don’t even own a TV, and even if I did, BBC doesn’t broadcast Top Gear in the States, but I watch the show faithfully even so. Now, it seems, its going away for good

How could it be a bad day when it is so beautiful out?

Yesterday morning, at about 8 am I distinctly heard birds singing. Birds. It sounded like spring. I have been an Oregonian for long enough to not get my hopes up, but the sound was cheering nontheless.

And his Snow-Art

Uh, Acquiring a SUV doesn’t automatically make one a person who can drive in the snow. Apparently, this video was taken in the West Hills, today

{edit: oops, the link is gone. Given the popularity of the video clip - being on national news and all - you’ve undoubtedly seen it anyway}

One of the joys of digital photography is that it doesn’t cost anything (after the purchase of the camera, of course) to take pictures. So I take pictures, crazy pictures, pictures I know won’t be any good - just to see what happens. Tonight I was playing with the different flash modes on my camera.

This morning, on NPR, when it was time to announce the weather, the lady reading the report said:  “…in the gorge tomorrow, freezing rain in the morning changing to melting rain …[snicker]… in the afternoon.”

Melting Rain.  Only in Oregon

Tyvex Wallet 1

My wallet is something I use, but don’t otherwise pay attention to much. Today I noticed how far gone mine was. I didn’t, however feel like running out and buying a new one. I wanted a special wallet. Google! I found some instructions for a paper wallet, which sounded cool. I made a prototype, following the instructions, then - using my last Tyvex shipping envelope - made the real version. Tyvex, unlike paper, is practically indestructible (its more of a fabric than a paper), and is also waterproof. Now full of my wallet-contents, the new, improved wallet is thinner than the old leather-ette wallet is empty.
And its mine. I made it. (grin.)

cats
One of my favorite things about living in the new house is that I have cats. I love cats. Of course, I shouldn’t really say I “have” the cats - cats are far too independent for that: rather, I live here, and so do two cats. The one in my lap right now is Tucker, the younger of the two, and Mortimer is undoubtedly sleeping somewhere. Mort is an old crotchety thing, and Tucker is slightly neurotic, but they are both quite affectionate: I can hardly sit down without them fighting for the lap-space. I love it.

Okay, I am working too much to really call them lazy days. But it is nice that, while not in school, when I get home from work, or on the weekend, I can really relax. If I want to go on a bike ride, I can without worrying about the homework I should be doing. Which is nice.
